The best TIN matching tools, compared side by side

Most tools do one piece of the job — a TIN check here, a watchlist there, a W-9 inside a filing product. TIN Comply runs every check on one record, in one call, and includes all of it in every plan. Here's the side-by-side.

No credit card for the trial. No IRS enrollment, ever.

Competitor details are drawn from each vendor's public website and pricing pages, last verified September 2026, and may have changed since — if something has, tell us and we'll correct it. "Not published" means we could not find the feature or price on the vendor's public site. Avalara 1099 & W-9 and TaxBandits are 1099 e-filing platforms that sell TIN matching as a per-form add-on; their columns reflect that add-on, not a standalone product. Zenwork's Tax1099 is a similar filing product and is discussed below rather than listed alongside its sister product Compliancely. Enterprise KYB platforms (Middesk, Equifax, Persona) are quote-priced and covered below. Sovos, TINCheck, Zenwork, Tax1099, Compliancely, Avalara, TaxBandits and other names are trademarks of their respective owners; TIN Comply is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.

Where TIN Comply is different

Six things you only get here

The whole check, on one record

IRS TIN match, EIN discovery, 330+ watchlists, USPS address, GIIN/LEI, provider and carrier verification, and W-9 status come back together — not from four vendors, four invoices and four audit logs.

Checks nobody else on this page runs

NPI validation with Medicare enrollment and opt-out status, and FMCSA carrier authority with insurance filings — the healthcare and freight halves of vendor compliance that TIN tools simply don't cover.

EIN discovery, not just verification

When a vendor gives you a name and no TIN — or the wrong one — we find the right EIN. Most TIN tools can only tell you the pair you have is wrong.

Every plan has every feature

Plans differ by volume and seats. Sanctions isn't a paid module, the API isn't a premium tier, and AI connections aren't an add-on.

Mismatch to resolution, automatically

A failed match doesn't end in a spreadsheet. It triggers a W-9 request to the vendor through a guided portal that explains what "legal name" actually means.

A team behind the software

Fixed-fee W-9 outreach, vendor master cleanup, B-Notice handling and 972CG penalty support — from people who have done this for Fortune 100 filers.

Head to head

Choosing between us and…

vs. Sovos TINCheck

Same price. Ten times the check.

  • Both start around $20 for 25 checks — TIN Comply adds W-9 collection, EIN discovery, address, GIIN/LEI, provider and carrier verification, and AI connections at that price.
  • 330+ watchlists vs. roughly 30.
  • TINCheck's EIN lookup returns a name from an EIN; it can't find the EIN from a company name. We do both.
  • Lower published per-check price at volume ($0.22 vs. $0.44 on TINCheck's largest published plan).
TINCheck may fit if you only ever need a TIN/name match and already have W-9 and screening handled elsewhere.
vs. Compliancely (Zenwork)

The closest match — without the W-9 or the price floor.

  • Both do TIN matching plus sanctions screening self-serve, at a similar entry price.
  • Compliancely doesn't collect W-9s; TIN Comply does, on the same record, in every plan.
  • TIN Comply's sanctions list count is published (330+), Compliancely's is not disclosed.
  • Lower per-check floor at volume ($0.22 vs. $0.54 on Compliancely's largest published annual plan).
  • Both offer an OAuth 2.1 MCP server for AI agents with TIN, OFAC and address tools — the difference is what else rides on the same record: W-9 status, EIN discovery, GIIN/LEI, provider and carrier verification, and 330+ published lists.
Compliancely may fit if you need Secretary of State status or business credit data — that's a KYB product, not a vendor-compliance one.
vs. filing tools with TIN matching add-ons (TaxBandits, Tax1099)

A line item on the filing invoice, not a vendor-onboarding control.

  • On these platforms TIN matching is priced as an add-on to 1099 e-filing — TaxBandits at $0.35 per match, Tax1099 at $1.00 real-time or $0.37 within 24 hours — and runs when you file, not when you onboard.
  • TaxBandits' standard match is a 24–48 hour batch; real-time is “on demand.” No sanctions screening or EIN discovery on either.
  • Both have shipped MCP servers; TaxBandits' runs on a sandbox endpoint with credentials in the URL, Tax1099's has no published pricing. TIN Comply's is production, OAuth 2.1, in every plan.
If you want one vendor for W-9 collection, TIN matching and 1099 e-filing, these are good choices — TIN Comply doesn't file returns.
vs. Avalara 1099 & W-9

Validate at onboarding, not at filing.

  • Avalara's TIN check lives inside the year-end filing workflow. Ours runs the day the vendor is created — before the first payment.
  • No sanctions screening or EIN discovery on Avalara.
  • Standalone API and AI connections for onboarding and AP systems.
Avalara is a good fit if W-9 collection plus 1099 filing is the whole job and you don't need pre-payment screening.
vs. IRS e-Services TIN Matching

The same match, without the friction.

  • No IRS application or e-Services account, no 1099 filing-history requirement, no 25-check session limit.
  • Plain-language results instead of numeric codes 0–8, with the next step built in.
  • Adds everything the IRS doesn't: sanctions, EIN discovery, provider and carrier verification, address, W-9, API, audit trail.
IRS e-Services is free and right for a small filer who checks a handful of TINs once a year and can wait for enrollment.
vs. KYB platforms (Middesk, Persona, Equifax)

Vendor compliance, priced for vendor teams.

  • KYB platforms are excellent for underwriting business customers — with quote-based pricing that typically starts in the five figures per year.
  • TIN Comply covers individuals and businesses (SSN, ITIN, EIN), collects the W-9, and starts at $20 a month.
Choose a KYB platform when you need Secretary of State status, ownership, liens or credit risk on business customers.
vs. AP & payout platforms (Tipalti, Trolley)

Compliance without changing how you pay.

  • Those platforms bundle TIN and OFAC checks inside a payments product with per-transaction fees and multi-month implementations.
  • TIN Comply plugs into the ERP and AP tools you already use — SAP, Oracle, Workday, NetSuite, Coupa — through the API or bulk files.
If you're replacing your payments stack anyway, a bundled platform may be simpler. If you're not, you don't have to.

Common questions

Comparing tools? People usually ask…

What is the best TIN matching software?

It depends on where TIN matching sits in your workflow. If you only need TINs checked once a year at filing time, a 1099 filing suite with TIN checks bundled may be enough. If you validate vendors year-round and want sanctions screening, W-9 collection and an API on the same check, that's what TIN Comply is built for — every check included in every plan. And if staff time is cheaper than software, the IRS's own e-Services program is free once an employee enrolls personally. The table on this page shows the differences feature by feature.

Is TIN Comply's TIN match the same as the IRS's?

Yes. We run the same name/TIN match the IRS uses at filing, in real time, and return the result in plain language with the recommended next step. You don't need your own IRS e-Services enrollment.

Do you file 1099s?

No. TIN Comply is built to get the vendor record right before you pay, so filing season is uneventful. We export clean data to whichever filing product you use, and our managed services team handles the CP2100 notices and 972CG penalty responses that follow if it isn't.

What does "330+ lists" actually include?

OFAC SDN and consolidated lists, the Commerce Trade Consolidated Screening List, SAM.gov exclusions, FinCEN, BIS, EU and UN sanctions, OIG LEIE, and hundreds of additional US and international watchlists. The full list is in the help center.

Can our AI agents use it?

Yes. Every plan includes our MCP server, which lets Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot or any MCP-compatible agent run live checks with OAuth 2.1 sign-in, per-tool permissions you control, and the same audit trail as the portal and API.

Can government agencies and their contractors buy TIN Comply?

Yes. TIN Comply is registered in SAM.gov (UEI PG97L28BTAP9 · CAGE 1AAA6) and holds a multi-year contract with a U.S. Department of Energy National Laboratory. Purchase-order and ACH terms are supported, and SAM.gov exclusion screening is included in every check.

Something in the table looks out of date.
